Forspoken Crashing: PC & PS5 [FIXED]

[ad_1]

Players are facing Forspoken crashing issue and there seems to be no word from the developers yet. Forspoken was one of the most hyped games set to release in 2023, yet it failed to meet all those high expectations. The game is quite mediocre, as far as the writing and clanky mechanics are concerned. On top of all that, it came with a fair amount of bugs and errors that hinder your gameplay experience even further.

One of the bigger problems players have been reporting across different platforms is the Forspoken crashing issue. The gun just crashes and sends players from the world of Athia back to their desktops in a matter of seconds. We’ll be looking into this problem and hopefully, come up with a solution that’ll at least get things rolling until an official patch arrives.

Key Highlights

  • Players have been facing Forspoken crashing issues since launch on both PC and PS5.
  • The game suddenly crashes without any reason and some have even reported corrupted save files after multiple crashes.
  • Suspected issues behind Forspoken PC crashing include failing to meet minimum requirements, outdated GPU drivers, corrupted/missing save files, and games’ inability to properly access files on the system.
  • Issues on PS5 may result from the console overheating, outdated firmware, and corrupted library on the SSD.

PC System Requirements for Forspoken
Forspoken PC System Requirements

If you move past the uninteresting characters and plot, Forspoken is actually a really pretty game. With stunning ladscape and larger-than-life creatures, it’s most definitely a site to behold. However, to render all those pretty visuals and particle effects, you’ll be needing a beefy system. Maybe the main reason why you’re facing Forspoken crashing issue is that your system might be lacking in power. How can you be sure? Let’s go through the system requirements and see whether your PC is up for the job.

Minimum System Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows® 10 64-bit (After November 2019 Update) or Windows® 11 64-bit

Did you tally the system requirements mentioned above with the hardware you have right now? If your PC falls anywhere between minimum to ultra system requirements, you’re good to go. If your PC isn’t even meeting the minimum system requirements, then I’m afraid it could be the reason why you’re facing Forspoken crashing issue.

Solution#1 Get Your GPU Drivers Updated

Updating your GPU drivers is really crucial not only for the performance of Forspoken but its stability as well. The latest Game-Ready drivers from Nvidia and AMD respectively bring a ton of optimizations and bug fixes to the game. Updating to the latest GPU driver may also help you fix Forspoken crashing issue that’s been buying you frequently.

Update Nvidia GPU Drivers

If you want to check for updates, go to the Nvidia Geforce Experience Application from your desktop. Here’s how you can do that:

Solution#2 Verify Forspoken Files Through Steam

The game files can get corrupted or go missing for several reasons. This is one of the major factors that lead to Forspoken crashing. However, steam allows you to verify the integrity of your game files and replace any corrupted or missing files with new ones. This gets your game in working order without any hassle. Let’s see how you can do this:

  1. First, open steam by either searching for it in the Windows search bar or double-clicking the Steam icon in the taskbar on the bottom right.
  2. Once you’ve opened steam, locate Forspoken from your games library, right-click on it and go to its properties.

  2. Here, select the “Verify Integrity of Game Files” option to start the process.

This process can take anywhere between a few minutes to several depending on your storage device speed. Once you start the process, just sit back, relax and let steam fix your game files. Upon completion, if Steam detects any missing or damaged files, it will auto-download and replace them in Forspoken installation directory. If your Steam has successfully replaced corrupted files, there is a high chance you’ve fixed Forspoken crashing issue on your PC. Simply boot up the game to test it out.

Solution# 3 Run Forspoken as Administrator

Sometimes Forspoken isn’t getting process access to game files which leads to crashing and black screen issues. One of the major reasons your game isn’t properly getting access to the files is that it may require higher privileges.

To grant higher privileges to Forspoken, you’ll need to run the game as an administrator. Make sure that the game’s application has admin access to allow the User’s Account Control (UAC) access to the PC. You can run Forspoken with administrator privileges by doing the following:

  1. First, locate the installation folder for Forspoken. It’ll be somewhere in the:
    C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common
In case you have the game installed on another drive, you’ll need to right-click Forspoken in your Steam Library -> go to properties -> local files -> click on locate local files.
  2. Once you reach the game install location, right-click on the main game’s executable and select properties.
Forspoken as Admin
Select Run Forspoken as Admin
  1. Once you’re in properties, go to the Compatibility tab and check to mark the option Run This Program as an Administrator.

After you’ve done everything, click on the “OK” button and try launching Forspoken now. If you were experiencing Forspoken crashing issue due to the game’s inability to access files properly, this solution will resolve that.

Solution# 4 Disable 3rd-Party Application Overlays

If you have other apps running in the background while playing Forspoken, chances are their overlays are active and it’s messing up with the game. Applications like steam, discord, MSI Afterburner, etc. have an overlay that you can activate with a shortcut keypress. If you aren’t actively using these overlays, they’re nothing but performance hogs that also can cause Forspoken crashing issues.

Here’s how you can disable the overlays of a few applications that you may have installed on your PC:

Disable Steam Overlay

This overlay is always running in the background whenever you’re playing a Steam game. It’s mostly used to access steam functionalities while in-game, but if you don’t need it, here’s how to turn it off:

  1. Open up steam from either the Windows Search or from the taskbar in the bottom right corner of the windows.
  2. Once you have steam opened up, locate Forspoken in your library and go to its properties.

  1. In properties, you’ll see the General tab. Simply uncheck the option that says Enable Steam Overlay In-Game. Simply uncheck this option.

Now you’ve successfully turned off Steam Overlay for Forspoken.

You’ll be mostly using discord overlay in case you’re chatting up with your buddies on call. If you’re playing Forspoken solo, it’s best to disable the Discord overlay. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Launch the Discord application by either typing Discord in Windows Search or opening it from the taskbar on the bottom right.
  2. Once Discord is open, go to its settings (gear icon) in the bottom left corner.
Disable Discord Overlay
Discord Settings

Disable Xbox Game Bar

Windows 10 and 11 introduced a slew of game-focused features that help games improve performance and several baked-in Game features, and Xbox Game Bar is one of them. It’s quite a system intensive and can cause Final Fantasy Core crashing issues. Here’s how to disable it:

  1. Launch Windows Settings by short key WIN Key + I.
Disable Xbox Game Bar
Xbox Game Bar Settings
  1. Once you open Windows Settings, go to the Gaming tab and then to the Captures menu. Here, disable all the options shown above.
  2. After this, head over to the apps tab and go to the Apps and Features setting.
Disable Xbox Game Bar
Stop Xbox Game Bar
  1. Here, type Game Bar into the search.
  2. Once the Game Bar App pops up, click on its menu button and select Advanced Option.
  3. Once you open the Advanced Options, you’ll see the Let This App Run In Background option under Background App Permissions. Here you should select Never.
  4. Once done, scroll down and click Terminate to close down Game Bar for Good.

You have successfully disabled Windows Game Bar now.

Solution# 5 Terminate Background Processes

Windows is one of the most powerful Operating Systems available for consumers. It’s usually running a multitude of tasks and background processes at any given time simultaneously. Now some of those processes tend to mess with applications and games which could be the culprit behind Forspoken crashing issue. You can try disabling these unwanted processes to fix this issue. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Fire up the Task Manager through the shortcut keys CTRL+SHIFT+ESC
Task Manager To Close Background Applications
Task Manager
  1. As the Task Manager opens, you’ll see a bunch of active processes in both the foreground and the background.
  2. If you deem a process unnecessary, simply right-click on it and select End Task.
  3. Keep repeating this process until you’ve eliminated unnecessary processes.

This way you’ll be able to free up your PC of processes and applications that were bogging down your RAM and CPU or interfering with Forspoken’s stability. However, you’ll need to close some applications manually like slack, Discord, Skype, Spotify, MSI Afterburner, etc since they continue running in the background. Simply go down to the taskbar on the bottom right and start closing applications that you don’t need.

Solution# 6 Disable Your System’s Antivirus Software

Antivirus software protects your PC from several threats and viruses. However, Antivirus software does tend to overreact to game files and show up false positives which end up deleting an important game file. This could be one of the major reasons behind Forspoken crashing issue and you’ll need to address this.

First, disable your Antivirus software complete and launch Forspoken. Play for a good 10-15 minutes and see if the crashing issue occurs again. If the game’s not crashing anymore, you’ve found your culprit.

However, you don’t need to permanently disable or uninstall your Antivirus solution, simply explore its settings and whitelist Forspoken’s install folder. This will prevent the Antivirus software from messing with Forspoken’s local files and deleting them.

Fix Forspoken Crashing Issue on PS5

Players users have also been reporting crashing issues. Here’s how you can try to fix it on PS5:

Solution# 1 Check If Your PS5 is Overheating

Forspoken is a game that’s heavy on visuals and particle effects. This means your PS5’s GPU will be working overtime to render all those fancy effects and frames. It will inevitably heat up your console and you may even experience throttling. However, if your console overheats, it may also cause Forspoken crashing issues on your PS5.

Your PS5 can overheat if it’s placed in a confined place which can restrict its airflow. Try placing it in a more open space with a cooler surface and better airflow. You can also use the stand that comes in the Box to elevate your PS5 while placing it horizontally.

If you’re constantly facing overheating issues, I recommend you get its liquid metal replaced or at least checked at your local console repair shop.

Solution# 2 Update Your PS5 to the Latest Firmware

It’s best that you get your PS5 updated to the most current firmware. A big reason to do this is that the latest updates come packed with a plethora of bug fixes, optimizations, and compatibility settings for the latest games released. In case your PS5 is running an older version of firmware, this might be the reason why you’re experiencing Forspoken crashing issue. You should follow these steps to update your console:

  1. From the main screen, go to the PS Settings menu.
  2. Visit the System Software Update section and choose to check for updates.
  3. If you are able to download any updates, install them by shutdown down any other application or game you may have within the background.

This will upgrade your console with the most recent firmware, and hopefully fix the issue of the Forspoken crashing.

Solution# 3 Try Using PS Performance Mode

PS5 has a built-in performance mode that improves the performance of games and also their stability. This preset caps your in-game FPS to 120 and favors performance with a slight compromise on visuals. Here’s how you can turn it on:

  1. From the PS5 home screen, head over to the system settings.
  2. Here, select Save Data and go to its Game/App Settings.
  3. You’ll see the Game Presets here; make sure to select the Performance Mode and close out of the menu.

Now try booting up Forspoken and hopefully, you won’t have to face the crashing issue.

Solution# 4 Attempt Rebuilding Database

Rebuilding the Database in PS5 is an excellent method to improve the performance of your gaming console faster, and quickly and eliminate any issues. It examines your drive, indexes files, and then creates a brand-new database with all its contents. It is possible to can try rebuilding the database as it can aid in resolving various problems with the system, such as missing icons for games, games not working, or even the Forspoken crashing issue. This is how you can do it:

  1. Shut down your PS5 Console first.
  2. Then press and hold the power button for about 7 seconds until you receive the beep. After the second beep, release the button and allow your console to start back on.
  3. Attach your PS5 controller via a cable to the console, then press the PS button to switch to Safe Mode.
  4. It will see an option called Rebuilding Database option, select it, and then you’ll be notified that your PS5 will now be rebuilding databases. Click OK to begin the process.

This procedure may take a while to be completed. After the process is completed, you can restart your console, and play Forspoken to check whether the crashing subsided or not. Hopefully, it will after this solution.
