First announced via its beta update last month, Valve has reconfirmed that Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 support for the Steam client will end on January 1st, 2024 at 10am next year. This announcement is made with the latest client update as the “end of life” alert will now be delivered to everyone.
According to Valve’s own survey data1.86% of Steam’s user base on the three operating systems receiving the bot. The majority of Windows users, which is 96.37% of the total active accounts on the platform, are using Windows 10 (62.33%) and Windows 11 (32.06%).
Along with this, the update also brings other fixes and improvements like reduced CPU usage during Big Picture Mode window, crash fix in compatibility mode, among others. On the macOS side, the End of Life Alert is being pushed to MacOS 10.11 (“El Capitan”) and 10.12 (“Sierra”).
