Windows 10 Build 19045.2907 Release Preview restores the search box on the taskbar, and more

Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 Build 19045.2907 (KB5025297) to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview channel. This new version actually contains a few new features, listed below, but it also focuses on bug fixes and improvements.

The full changelog can be seen below:

  • New! This update adds the ability to sync language and region settings when you change your Microsoft account display language or regional format. If you have turned on synchronization of language preferences in your Windows Backup settings, Windows will save these settings to your account.
  • New! This update changes the firewall settings. You can now configure application group roles.
  • New! This update brings back the search box experience to the Windows 10 taskbar. If you have top, bottom, regular, or small taskbar icons, you’ll see a search box appear. You can use it to easily access apps, files, settings, etc. from Windows and the web. You’ll also have access to the latest search updates, such as search highlights. If you want to restore your original search experience, you can easily do so by using the context menu or by responding to the dialog that appears when using search.
  • This update affects the Islamic Republic of Iran. The update supports the government’s Daylight Savings Time change order from 2022.
  • The update fixes an issue that sends users unexpected password expiration notices. This happens when you configure an account to use “Require smart card for interactive login” and set “Enable rolling of expiring NTLM secrets”.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects the execution of the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS). It may stop responding. This causes the machine to restart. The error is 0xc0000005 (STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION).
  • This update fixes an issue that affects Microsoft Edge IE mode. Pop-up windows open in the background instead of the foreground.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects Edge IE mode. The tab window manager stops responding.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects protected content. When you minimize a window that contains content, content appears when it shouldn’t. This happens when you are using Taskbar Thumbnail Live Preview.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects provisioning packages. They fail to apply in certain situations when elevation is required.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects Mobile Device Management (MDM) users. The problem prevents you from printing. This is caused by an exception.
  • This update changes app icons for certain mobile providers.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects Windows Defender Application Control. A policy that prevents software from using a hash rule may not prevent software from running.
  • This update fixes an issue affecting the Chinese input method. You may not see all of the previously suggested items.
  • This update affects Xbox Elite users who have an Xbox Adaptive Controller. This update applies your controller’s remapping preferences to the desktop.
  • This update fixes an issue that occurs when you use a PIN to sign in to Windows Hello for Business. Signing into Remote Desktop Services may fail. The error message is, “The request is not supported”.
  • This update fixes an issue that could affect the keyboard layout when you sign in to a console session. The setting can be reset to the system default. This happens when you lock your machine or have multiple keyboard layouts in the settings.
  • This update fixes an issue that could affect News and Interests. It may flash on the taskbar and File Explorer may stop responding.
  • This update fixes rendering issues that affect search box brightness (an animated icon). The problem occurs when you use wide, narrow or small taskbar mode.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects Microsoft Edge WebView2. This problem can cause an infinite loop when you try to restart its process.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects administrator account lockout policies. The resulting set of GPArsult and Policy did not report them.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects Active Directory users and computers. It stops responding. This happens when you use the TaskPad view to enable or disable several items at once.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects the Unified Write Filter (UWF). When you turn it off using a call to Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), your device may stop responding.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects the Resilient File System (ReFS). A stop error prevents the OS from starting properly.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects MySQL commands. Commands fail on Windows Xenon containers.
  • This update fixes an issue that affects SMB Direct. Endpoints may not be available on systems using multibyte character sets.
