I’ve run Call of Duty Warzone 2 on my setup with an RTX 3070, and the game runs perfectly fine. Since the optimization is decent, with only a few hitches here and there, I am sure you won’t have any problems running the game either. 

But we just don’t want to run the game, we want to dominate the playing field with high FPS without compromising visuals. Well, there, these Warzone 2 best settings will have you covered from all angles. 

So, let’s start optimizing your Warzone 2 best graphics settings and boost your in-game performance.

The first set of graphics settings is the Display Settings. These settings contain the basic visual settings you’ll need to configure to help Warzone 2 decide how it will run on your PC. 

Display Mode – Fullscreen Exclusive

If you’ve been following our guides for a while now, you know we’re going to go for Exclusive Fullscreen in Display Mode.

The devs have done a great job implementing this exclusive fullscreen mode that lets you switch in and out of Warzone 2 with ease. It’s almost as easy as if you’re running borderless mode. So, even if you need to use other apps and quickly switch to and fro to Call of Duty, you can now, even with exclusive fullscreen turned on and not lose a single FPS worth of performance.

Screen Refresh Rate – Auto

Select the highest Screen Refresh Rate here that your monitor can support. It can be anywhere between 60hz to 360hz. 

If you don’t know the exact refresh rate of your monitor, select Auto. It’ll select the highest refresh by default. 

When the game’s running at the highest refresh rate, it’ll be the most responsive and fluid, helping you nail those difficult shots. 

Display Resolution – Native

Display Resolution is the most important display setting in here. It will decide the resolution Call of Duty Warzone 2 will render. If you select anything lower than your native resolution, your game’s going to look like a muddy graphical mess. 

It’s best to select your monitor’s native resolution here, which could be either 1080p or 1440p. Your monitor could support up to 4k resolution but don’t play at 4k, as you’ll lose an immense amount of FPS. Plus, the fact that 4k isn’t advisable in a competitive shooter. 

Dynamic Resolution – Off

I have mixed feelings when it comes to the Dynamic Resolution setting. On one hand, it can help you maintain a solid target FPS, but it can also make your game mush which can ruin your visual clarity and k/d severely. 

It’s best to use an upscale later in quality settings rather than Dynamic Resolution. So better keep it off. 

Aspect Ratio – Auto

Monitors come in different shapes and sizes. Your monitor could have a common aspect ratio of 16:9, or it may be ultrawide. To select the best aspect ratio for your screen, select Auto for Aspect Ratio to avoid any graphical hitches.

V-Sync – Off

V-Sync is one of the settings that you need to turn off, especially in competitive shooters like Call of Duty Warzone 2. You may see screen tearing, but it’ll be within acceptable ranges. 

However, if you have a decent display, then you won’t have to experience too much screen tearing even at V-Sync is off.

Custom Frame Rate Limit – Custom

You will see three slides after selecting the Custom Option and clicking the “Show More” button.

We advise setting the Gameplay Custom Frame rate limit to 300 to allow maximum FPS to render. However, you may already have a target FPS limit in mind. Let’s say you only want your FPS to go as high as 120—move the slider until 120.

Set the Menu Custom Frame rate limit to 30 or 60 frames per second. The last thing your GPU needs is to be constantly under stress and compelled to render at 100+ frames per second on the main menu.

Finally, set the Out of Focus Frame Rate Limit to 20 or 30 frames per second. The game will use fewer resources when minimizing or being out of focus with these settings.

Restart Shaders Optimization

Call of Duty Warzone 2 has an option called Restart Shaders Optimizations that helps you delete all shader cache and reoptimize them. If you’ve been playing Warzone 2 for a long time and see graphical artifacts or facing stutters, you can use this option to get rid of corrupted shader data.

Render Resolution – 100

Be sure to set the Render Resolution option at 100 so that the game renders at your display’s native. If you set the resolution to a lower value, it will improve performance significantly. However, Warzone 2 will look like a blurry mess. Besides, there are other ways to improve performance instead of reducing the render resolution.

Upscaling/ Sharpening

There’s a way for you want to experience Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 in greater resolution without sacrificing significant performance. You’ll benefit a lot from using upscaling strategies like Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR, which you can find in the game’s settings. This is arguably one of the best Warzone 2 settings that you can use to gain performance.

If you’re using any RTX GPU, we recommend that you switch on DLSS. This can provide huge performance gains without affecting the game’s visual quality at resolutions above 1080p. At 1080p resolution or below, you can still use the DLSS setting. Only make sure not to drop below the “Quality” option.

If you don’t have an RTX card and are playing Call of Duty Warzone 2 on a GTX or AMD GPU, AMD’s FSR is the solution for you. It’s another great upscaling technology like Nvidia’s DLSS because it allows for increased performance without affecting image quality. If you opt to use AMD FSR on 1080p, we similarly suggest not dropping its setting below the “Ultra Quality” option.

If you’re not interested in upscaling techniques, we suggest choosing “FidelityFX” as your “FidelityFX CAS” option. It’s because this AMD technology improves images’ clarity. Make sure you set the slider to 75 if you choose to go with this option.

Anti-Aliasing – SMAA T2X

Like Moton Blur, a sloppy implementation of Anti-Aliasing is frequently criticized by most PC gamers. We couldn’t disable it even if we wanted to, so the next best thing was choosing the SMAA T2X option. This option offers greater clarity when compared to Filmic T2X SMAA. The performance cost was also minimal. However, you can lower it according to your PC hardware.

Anti-Aliasing Quality – Medium

The main idea behind tuning these settings for Warzone 2 was to strike a balance between visual clarity and greater performance. This is the reason it’s best that you put Anti-Ailiasing Quality to Medium. However, if you’re not happy with your performance at present and require an additional boost, you can set this setting to low. However, the medium settings will be sufficient for the majority of players.

Video Memory Scale – 85

The Video Memory Scale setting determines how much VRAM your game is able to use when you play it. To get the most efficient performance, ensure it’s set to 85 so the game can have the maximum available Vram while still leaving some for other processes in the background.

If there’s a third-party application running in the background or you are streaming, the game or that application may begin to slow down. If that happens, reduce your settings to 80. However, setting the option at 85 will be the right way to go for players who are only playing the game.

Texture Resolution – Low/High

Texture Resolution is a setting purely based on the amount of VRAM you have. It doesn’t significantly affect Warzone 2’s performance. Using High settings is perfectly acceptable if you have a GPU with more than 8GB or more VRAM. If your GPU is equipped with 6GB or less, you should use the low settings.

We do not recommend Ultra Low settings to anyone since the game textures start to look extremely muddy and washed out. Visually, The Low setting is miles better than Ultra Low as textures look decent, and you don’t lose FPS. Hence, if performance is your priority, then go ahead and use the Low preset in Texture Resolution setting.

Texture Filter Anisotropic – High

We recommended leaving Anisotropic Filtering at high since it significantly enhances the game’s visual quality. On the bright side, it also doesn’t affect performance that much. Hence, just set this to “high.”

Level Of Detail Nearby & Distant – Low

We recommend keeping both the Nearby and Distant level of detail settings low. If you’re playing the MW2 campaign, only then should these settings be set to “high.” That’s because it has beautifully crafted levels and scripted action sequences that look good at high graphics. This is not the case stated for Warzone 2.0 since it’s fast-paced.

Keeping the level of detail “low” can actually give you a competitive advantage in Warzone 2.0 by letting your GPU push more frames making your gameplay smoother.

Clutter Draw Distance – Short

We suggest keeping this setting to “Short” because we’ve set the level of Detail setting to Low. You don’t want your GPU to use resources to render an unnecessary amount of level details.

Particle Quality – High

We’ve tested it and confirmed on several spots that setting the Particle Quality setting to High actually results in better gameplay compared to lower settings. In addition to performing better, this setting makes the game even look better, which is a nice bonus.

Particle Quality Level – Low

To get the most performance, you should keep the Particle Quality Level setting to “low.” We could also suggest Very Low here, but that setting looks awful in-game as textures start to look really blurry.

Bullet Impact & Spray – Your Preference

The settings will decide how scattered sprays or bullets affect your surroundings. Bullet Impact & Spray is one of those settings in this Warzone 2 best settings guide that will not impact the performance in any way. Hence, you can tweak it to your preference.

Shader Quality – Low

The Shader Quality influences the lighting effect on certain surfaces. We suggest keeping this setting to “low” since it can be extremely demanding on your GPU and bog your FPS down.

Tessellation – Off           

Tessellation is one of the best Call of Duty Warzone 2 settings that improve the game’s graphical fidelity. However, you won’t need it much here as it looks amazing in the MW2 campaign. However, it’ll bog down your FPS unnecessarily in Warzone. So, you’re better off switching tessellation off for better performance.

Terrain Memory – Max

Enable this setting in Warzone 2 to utilize the maximum amount of memory required to load the distant terrain. It’s recommended that you turn this setting to Max. This will allow the game to access the maximum amount of memory which will reduce stutters and texture load times.

On-Demand Texture Streaming – Off

The On-Demand texture streaming feature lets the game download high-quality textures while you play. If you’re connected to a fast internet connection and a high-speed router, this will benefit you by reducing the game’s install size.

If you turn this off, the game will only display locally installed textures and will download complete texture packs before allowing you to play.

Streaming Quality – Low

Streaming quality will determine the quality and frequency of texture streaming across the entire Warzone 2 map. Make sure to keep these settings low to reduce processing power and improve performance. Rest assured, most gamers won’t be able to tell the differences between the high and low settings.

Volumetric Quality – Low

Volumetric Quality is one of the best Warzone 2 settings you can lower to improve FPS. Setting it to “low” is recommended as you’ll boost your performance significantly. Plus, you won’t need volumetric effects like fog, light, and cloud movement in Warzone 2.

Deferred Physics Quality – Off

The Deferred Physics Quality setting affects the water’s physics quality. We recommend keeping it off for Warzone 2. This is because you don’t need your GPU to use up resources rendering an excessive amount of detail at the cost of performance.

Water Caustics – Off

The Water Caustics setting is quite similar to the Deferred Physics Quality. This setting modifies the water quality of the game, making it seem more natural. We recommend keeping it off, as it bogs down your FPS for a graphical effect you barely notice.

Shadow Map Resolution – Medium

Shadow settings can consume an enormous amount of processing power. However, this setting can actually give you a competitive advantage. You can spot enemies indoors and around corners much easier by turning Shadow Map Resolution to at least Medium. This is the sweet spot between crisp shadows and good performance.

On the other hand, if you want to squeeze every bit of raw performance from your PC, you can pick either “low” or “very low” options too. These options will still display shadows, but they’ll be noticeably blurry and low-res. 

Screen Space Resolution – Off

Just like how Shadow Map Resolution determines the resolution of shadows in Warzone 2, the SSR setting determines their quality and depth. This is also one of those settings that you won’t notice in fast-paced battle royale matches. Hence, you can simply turn it off for better performance.

Spot Shadow Quality – Low

The Spot Shadow Quality determines the level of detail in shadows in spots. Since we’re optimizing these settings for performance in Warzone 2, you should set this to “low.”

Cache Spot Shadows – On

The Cache Spot Shadows setting is directly linked with the Spot Cache setting that’s right under this one. We suggest keeping this setting at “On,” as the spot shadows will be saved in your PC’s cache. This will have you save processing time and power and improve performance. 

Spot Cache – Low

Spot Cache setting determines the size you want to allocate to the spot shadows data. If you have plenty of VRAM (8 or above), you can set this up to high. However, for the majority of gamers, the low setting will work just fine.

Cache Sun Shadows – On

These settings follow the same principle that Cache Spot Shadows, except instead of Spot Shadows being stored in the cache, Sun shadows will be saved alongside them. They may provide an additional FPS in the future; therefore, keep these settings in place.

Particle Lighting – Low

This setting alters the quality of particle effects used in Warzone 2. Make sure to keep it at “low” to gain performance. Setting it to “high” is not worth the performance cost.

Ambient Occlusion – Off

Ambient Occlusion can make shadows and low-light areas look prettier. However, it does so by taxing your FPS significantly. Since we’re playing a fast-paced battle royale, we don’t need such cosmetic graphical effects. Hence, it’s best to leave it at off.

Screen Space Reflections – Off

Screen Space Reflections (SSR) sets the quality of reflections. They appear when you look at different reflective surfaces at a specific angle. Similar to the previous setting, it’s a mere graphical effect that takes up an excessive amount of GPU power to render. Since we aren’t after environmental details and strictly prioritizing performance, you can keep this setting “Off” as well.

Weather Grid Volumes – Off

Weather Grid Volume setting improves the weather affects quality as they apply to other dynamic objects in Warzone 2 like NPC’s or vehicles. Although we didn’t notice any performance or quality differences even when cranking this to Ultra, we still suggest you keep it to “Off” just to be safer. 

Nvidia Reflex Low Latency – On/ On + Boost

Nvidia’s Reflex is a relatively new technology developed to decrease input latency. There is no reason why you should leave this option off because it decreases latency significantly and does not negatively affect performance.

The “On” settings will work great for all players. However, if your CPU isn’t that powerful or you’re experiencing CPU overheating issues leading to FPS drops, change that setting to “On + Boost.” This way, your GPU will also run at higher clock speeds assisting your CPU in reducing latency. 

Depth Of Field – Off

Keep Depth of Field “Off” when playing Warzone 2. Don’t get me wrong; I am a huge sucker for the bokeh effect on weapons and in-world objects. However, considering in Warzone 2, you’ll be more forced to loot and hunt down players, DOF will only be a distraction rather than appealing.

Motion Blur – Off

As mentioned earlier, motion blur is usually disapproved by most PC gamers because it causes artificial screen blur as your character moves or sprints. Even in the campaign, no one likes this graphical setting, so it’s pretty apparent no one would like it in Warzone 2 either. You’re better off disabling it.

Film Grain – 0.00

This has got to be one of the worst settings in Warzone 2. No, scratch that! One of the worst graphical effects in modern games. Film Grain decreases visibility and gives you a disadvantage in PvP encounters. So, do yourself a favor by keeping this option set at 0.00.

  1. Now, search for “Thread Count for Handling the Job” in the find function. 
  2. In this setting, you’ll have to set the value to the number of cores your processors has. For Example, in my case, I have an 8-core process, so I’ve set the value here to 8. Yours might be different. 
  3. After you’re done configuring these settings, hit the save shortcut CTRL+S to save changes. 

After you’re done with the configuration file, launch Warzone 2 to experience the performance improvement these tweaks have on your gameplay. 

Disable Auto-starting And Background Applications

There are several processes and applications that keep running in your background once you launch the game. They hogg your system resources and tax your gaming performance significantly. Here’s how you can end these tasks and stop them from auto-starting on every boot. 

  1. Right-Click on the Taskbar and open up the Task Manager. You can also use the shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.

  2. Go to the Services tab and checkmark the box that says, “Disable All Microsoft Services.” Now start disabling services that you don’t need by unchecking them.
