Despite being released at the end of the month, it dominated the sales charts. Additionally, the entry also contributed to increasing the game’s total sales in the UK last month.
The remake of Resident Evil 4 turned in a remarkable number of units overall on various devices. For example, it reportedly sold 65 percent on the PlayStation platform, 20 percent on Xbox, and only 15 percent on PC. No specific sales numbers have been shared for the game, but it includes both digital and physical. It has also sold like hotcakes worldwide, selling over three million units just two days after its successful release.
Reportedly, it managed to surpass the success of the Resident Evil 3 remake within days of its release in the UK. However, Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake and Resident Evil Village still stole more copies than the newly released Resident Evil 4 remake. However, things might have been different if the episode had been released earlier in the month.
Hogwarts Legacy was another big seller in the UK since its release, gaining a huge fan base there. Regardless, Resident Evil 4 pushed it to second place. Nevertheless, it is estimated to be responsible for a 1% increase in game sales in the first quarter of 2023 in the UK. Additionally, it has broken many records globally, such as players already spending 406 million hours exploring the game since its recent release.
FIFA 23 took third place in the software sales chart, still securing its place in the market against newer releases. Additionally, the fourth place was held by the new WWE2K23. Despite selling 20% less than its predecessor, it still managed to hold the top 5 spot. The previous game sold a larger number of copies than the recent title because of all the speculation surrounding it.
Taking a look at the hardware sales charts, the PlayStation 5 largely outperforms other hardware, growing more than 180 percent in the first quarter of 2023 compared to last year. Additionally, its sales account for more than half of the console market in the UK. Things also looked bright for the console last month, as it took first place despite a 2 percent drop in sales. Xbox Series S and X sales fell 10 percent in March.
