Google has been nervous ever since OpenAI’s natural language processing tool chat GPT took the world by storm. It was also recently reported that the company recently A “Code Red” was announced Which is like pulling the fire alarm. The search giant has now been notified. More than 20 AI-related projects will be introduced this year..

One of these projects could be “Apprentice Bard”. According to a report by CNBC, is a chatbot that can provide answers to queries using natural language. Apprentice Bard uses Google’s conversational technology called the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), which is similar to the GPT language model on which ChatGPT is based.

One limitation of Chat GPT is its insufficient knowledge of the post-2021 world and events. However, Apprentice Bard can answer questions about recent events, including the recent Google layoffs that resulted in 12,000 employees losing their jobs. When asked if there will be another round of layoffs within Google anytime soon, Apprentice Bard responded with:

“According to my access to the database, Google is unlikely to have another round of layoffs in 2023. Layoffs are usually done to reduce costs and structure, but the company is doing well financially. In fact, Google’s revenue grew 34% in 2021, and the company’s stock price is up 70% since January 2022.

Additionally, Google is reportedly testing an alternative version of its homepage that replaces the “I’m feeling lucky” button with a prompt for potential questions. It is similar to ChatGPT’s homepage, with ideas for asking questions. The CNBC report further explains:

When a query is entered, search results display a gray bubble directly below the search bar, offering more human-like answers than normal search results. Directly below that, the page suggests a number of follow-up questions related to the first one. Underneath, it displays general search results, including links and headlines.

Apart from these developments, the company was also seen working on an AI bot that can produce music by following text prompts. However, the company is not keen on launching this tool anytime soon.

A Google spokesperson called AI a “fundamental and transformative technology that is incredibly useful for individuals, businesses and communities.” According to him, the company is testing its AI technology internally to ensure that it is helpful and safe. For now, it remains to be seen how AI will transform Google’s current and future products and services.
