January 31 was a happy occasion for Final Fantasy players. Final Fantasy VII was celebrating its 26th anniversary. Many fans were expecting a live stream like last year, but Square Enix had something else in mind.
January 31st was officially crowned Final Fantasy Day. At the event, director Yoshinori Kattis announced that the game had only managed to sell 14.1 million units worldwide.

While the tweet announcing the news came from Final Fantasy VII. Twitter account. However, the idea was first proposed and then implemented by Square Enix.
Square Enix was able to announce January 31st as Final Fantasy with the help of Japan’s Birthday Association. In the governing body, the association lists any type of commemoration in the country.
In a touching statement, director Yoshinori Kattis talks about the struggles he and his team have faced over the years. He emphasized how the ever-changing technological revolution has motivated him to always be enthusiastic and work harder.
In her statement, she had this to say about the whole experience.
Final Fantasy VII was released on January 31, 1997, and it was the day many things changed for the series and for us in development. I remember dreaming of a future that was wide open even as I was swallowed by the waves of rapidly evolving game technology. Enacting this anniversary, I will not forget this feeling and will always cherish it.
Director Yoshinori Kitase also mentioned the fact that, over time, Final Fantasy VII has managed to sell over 14.1 million units worldwide. That doesn’t sound too shocking to hear, considering the fact that Final Fantasy VII has always been a fan favorite.

The game first came out in 1997 and became an instant hit. Even after 26 years, the fanbase he has amassed is a force to be reckoned with. Recently, a fan-made 3D model of Cloud Strife’s weapon from the original Final Fantasy VII.
