After the recent battles with Dark and Darker and Nexon, an enthusiastic fan has taken it upon himself to develop an attractive dungeon crawler within Fortnite. The fan-made map within Fortnite’s creative mode attempts to reimagine the game’s immersive environment in all its glory.

The video, barely hitting the 1:20 mark, showcases a Fortnite character tracking through a recreation of a dark and gloomy map, with only a flashlight illuminating the dungeon. It’s currently in the works, and the creation basically includes the popular map, although enemies are nowhere to be seen. Another thing that caught the eye of fans was the well-integrated mini-map, which feels like an exact copy of the original hardcore PvPvE entry.

Fermelon has attempted to pay an ode to the now-removed entry by Ironmace, but it remains to be seen whether the map will be available without legal trouble. There is a possibility, as stated by the creator, that it will be available as a playable map once the creator receives the code. Fans cheered the statement, but the underlying issue of legal rights still remains.

It is possible that the entertainment may not be compatible with Epic Games, and may be deleted when uploaded. The gaming giant recently clarified that Fortnite fans are not allowed to recreate maps from other franchises or Fortnite nostalgia. The only exception to the rule was the original Fortnite map from Season 1. Even if a game map is available as a playable option, it will not be monetized.

Dark and Darker started out as a very successful entry, far from being released but still earning the respect of fans. For example, one of its alpha playtests managed to attract more than two million users. It held several playtests throughout its lifetime, each session featuring massive improvements and growth to an enthusiastic player base before the legal crisis with Nexon began. The game was then removed from the face of the web.

Nexon issued a DMCA takedown and served Ironmace with a cease-and-desist letter “based on distorted claims” about the dungeon crawler. He accused the team of using stolen assets and code while developing Dark & Dark, which caused subsequent playtests to be delayed. Eventually, the game was removed from the Steam storefront. Iron Mace released a statement detailing the context and explaining the new development to the player.

To all our fans, we have recently been served with a cease and desist letter and DMCA takedown from Nexon regarding Dark & Darker based on distorted claims. We are currently working with our legal team to best resolve this issue.

Overall, the fate of the entry remains to be seen, as legal complications have made it difficult to proceed with development. Regardless, the team assured us that it’s going well, and the issues haven’t stopped progress. In the meantime, we can enjoy Dark and Dark within Fortnite once the fascinating map is revealed in the future.
